A 30-year-old man from Squamish lost his life on Hwy. 99 Jan. 27, just eight days shy of his 31st birthday.

Local RCMP said they received a report of a missing person at 8:10 p.m., when Andreas-Joerg Klau, who had left Squamish at approximately 6 p.m. en route to Coquitlam, had failed to return home after work.

Just after 10 p.m. friends of the family, who were out searching the highway, discovered the body of Klau and his motorcycle approximately 8 km south of town.

According to RCMP, Klau had been traveling southbound on Hwy. 99 at Watts Point and apparently lost control of his 2004 Honda motorcycle, going off the road and over an embankment.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the motorcycle traveling south between Squamish and Watts Point, likely between 6 and 6:30 a.m., to contact the detachment.

Klau leaves behind a wife and young daughter. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations to a trust account for his baby daughter, Seven, would be greatly appreciated.

Donations can be made at the Bank of Montreal's Squamish branch.
