Police this week issued an public appeal for the return of a prosthetic leg they said was stolen this week from a Squamish man in Vancouver.

The leg, which has an estimated value of $20,000, was stolen on Monday (March 21) from a van parked near East 8th Avenue and Commercial Drive, the Vancouver Sun reported on Wednesday (March 23).

The victim, a 46-year-old Squamish man whom police did not identify, returned to his vehicle to find that the van's driver's-side door had been pried open and the door unlocked. A Mountain Equipment Co-op bag containing the leg was stolen, the Sun reported.

Police told the Sun that the thief or thieves probably did not know the leg was in the bag. The man told police that replacing the leg would take more than a month and require multiple visits to the doctor, during which time the man would be deprived of a means of getting around, the Sun reported.
