One of the two trucking companies on District of Squamish (DOS) owned land near the new Sea to Sky Adventure Centre can stay longer, but the other has to be off by the end of the month.

Burritt and Son Tucking Ltd. signed an agreement with the DOS to extend the land lease for the Loggers Lane parcel near the Sea to Sky Adventure Centre to May 31 in a deal announced Tuesday (Feb. 15).

The original deadline for the Burritts and its neighbour, JR Trucking, to vacate the land on Loggers Lane at the edge of the Mamquam Blind Channel was Feb. 28.

Darren Doak of JR Trucking said on Wednesday (Feb. 16) he is trying to meet the Feb. 28 deadline to move his business off the lot next to Rose Park.

"We had a big scramble going on here now but I don't think I'll be able to hit the deadline at this point," Doak said.He is working on a deal to relocate his business to another piece of property in Squamish. Doak said he couldn't get into the details of the deal because negotiations are ongoing.

The lease extension negotiated by the DOS and the Burritts was news to Doak. He said he would call Municipal Hall right away and enquire about an extension for the site his company occupies.

Wednesday evening Doak reported his request for an extension was denied.

Mayor Ian Sutherland said on Thursday (Feb. 17) there won't be a lease extension for the property leased by JR Trucking.

"The challenge with doing an extension for Mr. Doak is the timing and his location is slightly different and has a different overall impact compared to Mr. Burritt," Sutherland said.

Burritt made the request quite some time ago, added Sutherland.

Under the Burritt lease extension the trucking company agreed to pay $619.18 for use of the land between Feb. 28 and May 31.

There are a number of conditions attached to the lease extension. The conditions restrict the company to parking only four licensed trucks at the site and over a two-week period some time between Feb. 28 and May 16 access to the site by the company will be significantly restricted. On May 6 and 7 the land will be used by the DOS as a parking lot for a special event planned for Rose Park.

Bruce Burritt confirmed the trucking operations will now be located at a piece of property he owns in the Squamish Business Park. A log home building company currently leases a portion of the property.

"The property is three acres," Burritt said. "There's lots of room."
