Lube business unlikely on Tear Drop property

Council pushes forward rezoning

No quick lube business will likely be able to operate on the teardrop-shaped property near Squamish Elementary School. Council on Tuesday passed third reading of a rezoning bylaw that effectively prohibits the business.

Brockton Projects Ltd. had proposed an oil change station on the property at Buckley and Cleveland avenues, but parents, other community members, and members of council protested that it was not a safe location for such a business because of potentially increased traffic that would be drawn near the elementary school. The rezoning, at council’s request, switches the light industry portion of the property to commercial. The bylaw will be on council’s table at a future meeting.
