The province’s police oversight body is investigating an incident in Squamish where a man allegedly sustained police dog bite injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office, or IIO, which is called to look into cases where civilians are harmed in interactions with officers, announced they are looking into a case that occurred on Dec. 13.

At around 11:30 p.m. that day, officers were responded to an alleged domestic disturbance at a hotel on Tantalus Road, the IIO said.

In that case, a man left the scene and a police service dog found him after midnight, the agency said.

“The man sustained dog bite injuries during his arrest and was assessed by Emergency Health Services on the scene before being transported to a local area hospital for treatment,” the IIO statement said.

The IIO is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the incident to contact the IIO Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
