A man has been charged with breaking and entering after getting into a vehicle at a local car dealership – when it was closed.
A security guard who was monitoring a live video feed of Key West Ford called police after witnessing a suspect getting into a vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20. After calling 911, New Westminster police attended the dealership.
“The suspect had entered the dealership and was observed getting into a vehicle,” said a press release from the New Westminster Police Department. “When officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot; however, shortly after he complied with police direction and was arrested without incident.”
According to the NWPD, Crown counsel has approved break and enter charges against James Ginther, a 43-year-old Vancouver resident.
“We are recommending both car dealerships and construction sites invest in a monitored security system,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “Thanks to this foresight, officers were quickly contacted and were able to make a safe arrest.”
