A Whistler man is facing charges in relation to the discovery of a small amount of heroin during a traffic stop in Squamish last week.
On Tuesday (Oct. 15) at around 3:50 p.m., a Squamish RCMP officer on traffic enforcement duties pulled a vehicle being driven by the 41-year-old after the driver allegedly was using an electronic device, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
The officer noted that the man showed signs of being impaired by possible drug use, and further investigation resulted in the seizure of a small quantity of heroin, Pride said. The man was arrested. In addition to a charge of possession of a controlled substance, he faces a charge of breaching conditions imposed as a result of another investigation, in which he was directed not to use illicit drugs, Pride said.
Man arrested
Last Tuesday (Oct. 15) at around 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress in the 38000 block of Westway Avenue. At the scene, officers arrested a 58-year-old man for assaulting his 32-year-old wife during an argument.
Phone stolen
On Tuesday (Oct. 15), police received a report of a break-in at a home in the 1800 block of Mamquam Road sometime between 9:45 and 11 p.m. A window had been forced open and a black iPhone 5 in a purple case was stolen.
Compressor taken
On Thursday (Oct. 17), police received a report that a compressor had been stolen from a locked shed at a home in the 1900 block of Centennial Way. The theft occurred sometime between Wednesday (Oct. 16) at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Police forensics experts are examining evidence as part of the investigation.
Bike recovered
On Thursday (Oct. 17), a woman called police to say she had located a mountain bike that been stolen from her in January. The bike had been left in the 38000 block of Loggers Lane, near the Adventure Centre. The woman said she had not reported the bike as stolen because it was an older model and of unknown value. Police visited the location and detained an 18-year-old Squamish resident. The bike was seized pending further investigation, Pride said.
Fire 'suspicious'
On Thursday (Oct. 17) at around noon, police visited the 38000 block of Progress Way in response to a report that the Squamish Fire Department had doused a suspicious fire at a trailer in the area. A small fire had been set inside, possibly by someone who was squatting in the trailer and was attempting to cook a meal, Pride said. Damage to the trailer was minor, partly because of a prompt response from firefighters. No suspect has been located.
Items stolen
Vehicles parked at Shannon Falls and Stawamus Chief provincial parks were targeted by thieves in two separate incidents last week.
On Thursday (Oct. 17), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into while parked in the Shannon Falls lot between noon and 2 p.m. A passenger-side window of a Jeep was smashed. Stolen were three backpacks containing clothing and personal items. Police are awaiting further details on what was stolen.
On Friday (Oct. 18), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into while parked in the Chief lot between noon and 7 p.m. A rear window was smashed. Stolen were a silver MacBook Pro laptop, a red Kodak camera, a external hard drive and numerous electronic chargers were stolen. The total value of the items was estimated at $2,000.
