A white water rafting group made a grisly discovery Tuesday (May 26) when it rounded the steep corner of Devil's Elbow and came across the partially submerged body of a man on the shore of the Elaho River.
The police have called it a motor vehicle fatality investigation, and are releasing little information. However a RCMP news release states the victim is a 47-year-old Vancouver man.
"The deceased male and vehicle were located approximately 200 feet down an embankment off of the Elaho Main Logging Road at the rivers edge," states the release.
The man was removed by search and rescue personal using a helicopter and long line.
A police helicopter from the Lower Mainland, Squamish RCMP, the B.C. Coroners Service and Squamish Search and Rescue attended the scene.
The vehicle was removed today as members of a dive team were brought in to assist.
"The matter remains under investigation at this time and police are attempting to locate and advise next of kin," states the release.
