On Sunday (Sept. 23) at around midnight, Squamish RCMP responded to a report of a male having been injured near the Riverside Campground along the Ashlu Forest Service Road.
At the scene, paramedics were treating a 20-year-old North Vancouver man who had sustained head and neck injuries when he fell from a vehicle being driven by another male, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
The victim was treated at Squamish General Hospital. A 19-year-old North Vancouver man is being investigated for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of the accident. Police said it appears the victim may have been hanging onto the outside of the vehicle being driven by one of his friends when he fell off. Alcohol appears to have been a factor, Pride said.
Copper wire targeted
On Thursday (Sept. 20) at around 8:45 p.m., police received a report that "some males" were seen at a logging camp shop on Squamish Valley Road near the Cheakamus River Bridge, Pride said.
Police found that the suspects had broken through a fence and had started a fire to burn some of the coating off of copper wire that was wound around a spool. The males apparently left with some of the wire, and police who found the spools burning had to extinguish the fire, Pride said. The suspects may have been scared off by passers-by, he said.
Also on Thursday, police responded to a report of a fence surrounding the B.C. Hydro substation in the 59000 block of Squamish Valley Road having been damaged. No timeline was available, but the fence was cut in three areas. Nothing was stolen, but police believe the perpetrator(s) were looking for copper wire to steal.
Bike stolen
On Wednesday (Sept. 19), police were informed of the theft of a green and grey Opus Mika 24-speed mountain bike from outside a home in the 40400 block of Cheakamus Way. The bike, valued at $850, was stolen between Saturday (Sept. 15) at 8 p.m. and Sunday (Sept. 16) at 8 a.m., after having been left unlocked outside the home.
Knife used in attack
On Thursday (Sept. 20) at around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a home in the 38000 block of Westway Avenue after a report of a fight involving a knife. Officers arrested a 38-year-old Squamish woman for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old man who was known to her. The man suffered minor cuts in the incident.
Man bear sprayed
On Friday (Sept. 21) around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man having been bear sprayed by another man who was not known to him while fueling his vehicle at the Husky station on Cleveland Avenue. The victim provided a description of the suspect, and police arrested a 43-year-old North Vancouver man in connection with the assault shortly thereafter.
Fare boxes stolen
On Sunday, police received a report of fare boxes having been stolen from two Squamish Transit buses sometime between Saturday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. The buses were parked in the 38000 block of Production Way, one inside a fenced area, the other outside. No damage was done to the buses nor to the fenced area. Police are examining surveillance video as part of their investigation.
