Man jailed in sexual-interference case

Lamb to serve a year for luring, having relationship with girl, 15

A Squamish man who had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl was sentenced to a year in jail, last week.

Russell Thomas Lamb, 24, pleaded guilty last Friday (March 22) in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court to one count of sexual interference of a person under 16 and one count of communicating via computer to lure a child under 18, a court official said.

Lamb was initially arrested when police executed a search warrant at his home in Squamish on April 18, 2012, RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming said.

The pair first met on a bus in Maple Ridge, and the girl subsequently spent time at Lamb's home, The Province newspaper reported. When confronted, the two initially denied that the relationship was sexual and he was released. The girl's father, though, monitored her Facebook messages and found evidence of a sexual relationship that he passed on to police, the newspaper reported.

Lamb was re-arrested and charged last September, Cumming said.

Last week, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in jail on each count, but was credited with having served six months in jail while awaiting sentencing, court officials said. In addition to the jail time, Lamb is to serve three years' probation, is prohibited from possessing firearms for 10 years, is to have no contact with the victim or her family after his release, and was ordered to stay away from schools other places where children congregate, officials said.
