A Squamish man was arrested on the weekend in possession of "a large amount" of computer equipment that police believe he was trying to steal from the School District 48 office in downtown Squamish.
On Sunday (Feb. 12) at around 7:30 p.m., police responded to an alarm at the office in the 37000 block of Second Avenue, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
At the scene, police arrested a 35-year-old Squamish man who is well-known to police, Pride said. Upon further investigation, officers found that entry had been gained through a window, and that the man had been trying to escape carrying two duffel bags stuffed with computer equipment, Pride said.
Golf club entered
On Thursday (Feb. 9), Squamish RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter at the Furry Creek Golf and Country Club. Sometime between Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at 8 a.m., someone gained access to a fenced maintenance yard by crawling over a fence, Pride said.
A storage container was broken into but nothing was stolen from the container, although approximately $100 worth of fuel was taken from a fuel-storage tank on the site, he said. Police are investigating.
Leaf blowers swiped
A backpack-mounted leaf blower and a self-push leaf blower were stolen from a storage unit at Alice Lake Provincial Park campground. Although the items were found to be missing from the unit on Friday (Feb. 10), it's not known when the break-in and thefts occurred because the unit had not been checked for a number of months, Pride said. A lock was broken to gain access to the unit, he said.
Vacuum stolen
On Friday at 7:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft at a business in the 38000 block of Progress Way. A worker reported a Caucasian male, 5 feet 10 inches tall with light brown hair, a scruffy beard and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans had been in the store about 45 minutes earlier looking at appliances.
An emergency exit alarm was sounded and the man was seen leaving on a bicycle. A Dyson upright vacuum, grey with an orange top and valued at around $500, was stolen. Policing are examining surveillance video in their attempts to solve the crime, Pride said.
Two arrested for assault
On Saturday (Feb. 11) at around 3 a.m., police responded to a report of a loud altercation at an apartment in the 1400 block of Pemberton Avenue. At the scene, officers arrested a 33-year-old Squamish man for physically assaulting a female, who was known to him, after a verbal argument, Pride said.
On Sunday (Feb. 12) at 7 p.m., officers responding to a report of an assault at a home in the 38000 block of Buckley Avenue in Dentville arrested a 66-year-old Squamish man for allegedly assaulting a female acquaintance.
