Manhunt on for sexual assault suspect

North Van RCMP alert Squamish police, community

Police in North Vancouver are conducting a manhunt for a suspect in the recent sexual assault of a teenage girl.

RCMP have alerted neighbouring municipalities, North Vancouver RCMP Const. Geoff Harder said, providing Squamish and Lower Mainland detachments with a composite sketch of the suspect. They are now asking for the public's help in providing tips on a assault that took place on Thursday (June 28) at 12:30 p.m. on Capilano Road.

The suspect, who is described as a Caucasian male around 45 years old, is not known to the victim or her family.

"The girl had just returned home after picking up her school report card, when the suspect knocked on the door, saying her parents had contracted him to do arborist work in the yard, Cpl. Holly Marks said in a statement. He knew the girl's first name, and convinced her to let him in the house, where he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as six feet tall with a heavier build and short brown hair with gel in it. He was wearing blue jeans and a short-sleeved blue polo shirt.

This has been a traumatic event for our family and we want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else, the father of the teenage victim said.

Police do not know whether the suspect left on foot or in a vehicle, Harder told The Chief.Anyone who may have information about this suspect or incident is asked to call Cpl. Gord Reid of the North Vancouver RCMP Serious Crime at (604) 969-7515 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
