A man who sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy at a Squamish campground 2 years ago has been declared a dangerous offender, a designation that carries an indeterminate sentence, according to media reports.
After he pleaded guilty to sexual assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement, James McCallum was declared a dangerous offender -which means he may be in prison forever, Vancouver-based CKNW radio reported on Wednesday (June 1).
In September 2008, McCallum sexually assaulted the boy, who was n a school trip from Ontario, inside a tent at the campground, the station reported. McCallum also threatened to kill the boy if he reported the crime, it stated.
After the incident, McCallum fled the province and was eventually arrested by Toronto Police.
