Sea to Sky School District (District 48) officials this week named Lisa McCullough as the new superintendent of schools, effective at an as-yet-undetermined date later this fall.

McCullough, who is currently director of instruction for the Central Okanagan School District in Kelowna, was named superintendent in a statement issued by the District 48 board of trustees on Wednesday (Sept. 14). She replaces Dr. Rick Erickson, who retired from the post in the spring.

As director of instruction for the Central Okanagan district, McCullough's main responsibility is to supervise eight elementary, two middle, one secondary and one alternate school with a total student population of 5,500 in grades K through 12. She also chairs a number of district-wide committees including Quality Assessment, Human Rights and Health Promoting, officials said. She has also worked closely with the West Bank First Nation Council and collaborated with the Band on many aspects of aboriginal education.

Before her appointment to that job, McCullough was principal of Mount Boucherie Secondary School with a student population of 1,500 in Grades 10 to12, for which she was recognized as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals. McCullough has also been principal of a middle school with 550 students in Grade 7 to 9 and a French immersion dual-track elementary school with 350 students.

Her teaching experience focused on special education and English Second Language learners in elementary and middle schools in Central Okanagan and Toronto, officials said.

Dallas Cristofoli, who was named District 48 interim superintendent last month, will continue in that role until McCullough assumes her new position.
