Meeting to focus on 'peak oil' and sustainability

The Squamish Climate Action Network (CAN) is hosting a "Network" meeting next week focusing on community resiliency and sustainability.

The meeting, which takes place on Monday (Nov. 29) at 6:30 p.m. in the Garibaldi Room of the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub, will feature two local speakers who are on the leading edge of community dialogue about "peak oil" and sustainability.

Kim Needham, is a Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) strategy planner and chair of the SLRD Energy Resilience (Peak Oil) Task Force. The latter, the first of its kind in North America, is responsible for making recommendations to the SLRD board aimed at addressing the kinds of social and economic challenges corridor communities will face in the next decade as a result of peak oil and the need to transition to a lower-carbon future.

Lisa Griffith is an associate at the Whistler Centre for Sustainability and principle of Pemberton-based Green Leaf Consulting, which focuses on sustainability issues.
