Former Whistler mayor Ken Melamed this week announced his candidacy for the Green Party of Canada nomination in the 2015 federal election in the riding that includes Squamish.
Melamed, who said he chose to run for the Green Party because “it is free from the ‘old-style party politics,’” announced his candidacy on Wednesday (July 2). The party is set to choose its candidate in West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding at nomination meetings on Aug. 7 and 8.
Michael Maser of Gibsons also is seeking the nomination. The winner will run against incumbent MP John Weston of the Conservative Party and Liberal Party of Canada candidate Pam Goldsmith-Jones.
Melamed served multiple terms on Whistler council before winning the mayor’s seat in 2005. He served two terms as mayor, ending in 2011.
