Memorial held for dog shot by hunter

Crowd gathered near O'Siem Pavilion in downtown Squamish Wednesday night to mourn Kaoru

A crowd of about 30 to 40 people, most with dogs and children, gathered for a memorial Wednesday night in honour of Kaoru, a therapy dog killed near Lake Lucille on Monday morning. The Conservation service is investigating the incident.

A campaign on Change.org has been launched by Valley Calderoni, founder of Canine Valley rehabilitation centre to petition the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District to create a hunting-free zone between Whistler and Squamish.

Go to, “Create a No Shooting - No Hunting zone along highway 99 between Squamish & Whistler” for more information.

A Go Fund Me cammpaign was also launched and raised $7,240 of its $12k goal in just two days. Among other initiatives, the funds raised will support the hunting-free zone petition drive, training a new generation of service dogs, as well as help with the setting up of a new expanded Canine Valley centre that is set to open soon, according to the site.
