The federal Liberal Party wants to makes its presence felt, and it seems the party leader is just the man to do it.

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff is returning to Squamish for an informal hour-long gathering at the Adventure Centre Sunday (Aug. 22) starting at 8:30 a.m.

Daniel Veniez, the Liberal MP candidate for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky joins Ignatieff during the stop on his national bus tour.

"Typically, what we do is take questions and encourage questions on an informal basis. It's a low key thing, it's an opportunity for us to meet people and interact with people."

Veniez said the Liberal Party feels strong support in the riding, currently held by Conservative MP John Weston, elected in October 2008.

"I don't want to sound like I'm tooting our own horn here but this constituency is ours to lose," said Veniez. "It has a lot to do with how people are feeling about the performance of the Harper conservatives on the one hand and a lot to do with people feeling strongly that they want to see a viable alternative on the other."

He called the constituency a target riding and said they're fairly confident they can win it back.

"We're in the process of presenting them that alternative, which is why this constituency is a focus."

Veniez said the meeting will be fairly informal and is designed so Ignatieff can meet as many people as possible.

"I'll introduce him, say a few words about the constituency and who I am, then he'll do the same and talk about his vision and the liberal vision for the country," said Veniez.
