Shovels were planted in the ground for a new elementary school and preschool for Squamish Montessori on April 20.
When everything is complete in 2019, four elementary classrooms, a multipurpose room for community events and two preschool classrooms will be built.
“Way back in 2006, my wife, Michelle, and I moved from Toronto to B.C. to set up a Montessori preschool,” said Lindsay Graye, who heads of the school, in a news release.
“We settled in beautiful Squamish. Our preschool flourished and by 2010, we opened a second preschool, and through parent demand, we started a small two-grade elementary classroom.
After a few years, a group of wonderful parent volunteers decided we needed our own purpose-built Montessori elementary school. Many, many volunteer hours later, we’re witnessing the building of this new school.”
Graye added that he wanted to thank parents, volunteers and donors.
The preschool will be housed on the main floor and the elementary classroom and multi-purpose room will be on the upper floor of the building.
Located on the Skyridge site, the school will border the forest and include sweeping views of the Tantalus range.
