A Squamish resident who was pulled over by police for not having a working headlight on his motorcycle is facing a somewhat more serious charge as a result of the stop.
In the early morning hours of Saturday (July 2), a Squamish RCMP officer on patrol saw a motorcycle without a front light, RCMP Sgt. Eric Rochette said in a statement.
The motorcycle was pulled over on Government Road, and further investigation revealed that the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid licence. The man was arrested and a subsequent search revealed "a quantity" of crack cocaine in his possession, Rochette said.
The 24-year-old man is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
One injured in crash
Also on Saturday, at approximately 10:10 p.m., police received a report of a motorcycle collision at Mile 40 of Squamish Valley Road. Police arrived to find that a dirt bike had gone over an embankment next to the road, Rochette said.
The driver, a 29-year-old male, fell approximately 100 feet down the bank and suffered broken bones and internal injuries. B.C. Ambulance and Squamish Search and Rescue attended, and the man was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Laptop stolen
On Monday (July 4) at around 6:45 p.m., police received a report of a break-and-enter at a home on Lewis Drive. A suspect or suspects gained entry through a window and stole a laptop computer. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to phone Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Man faces two charges
On Thursday, June 30, at around 11:30 p.m., police received a dropped 911 call from a cell phone. Before the call was lost, a police dispatcher heard a male and female arguing, and the male then swore into the phone before hanging up, Rochette said.
The police dispatcher eventually spoke to the woman, who reported having been threatened by the male. Police then attended a home in the 38000 block of Fourth Avenue and located the male and female. The investigation revealed that the male, a 51-year-old Squamish resident, was under court order not to communicate with the female and the man was arrested. He faces charges of uttering threats and breaching an undertaking.
