MP announces federal investment in Squamish Harbour

Squamish's small craft harbour will receive federal funding thanks to the Government of Canada's recent $67 million investment in small craft harbours across Canada, announced in April 2010.

West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky MP John Weston joins Squamish Mayor Greg Gardner at 10:30 a.m. today (Oct. 15) to announce funding of small craft harbour improvements, which may mean wharf restoration.

The presentation will take place at the Squamish Marina at the east end of Vancouver Street.

This funding is part of the government's commitment to providing safe and functional harbours to support the commercial fishing industry, according to Weston's communications and legislative assistant Joshua Peters.

He said once the improvement project is tendered, construction will begin promptly.

As part of its smallcraft harbours program, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has undertaken improvement projects and repairs in co-operation with the local harbour authorities that manage and operate facilities for local users.
