A large car wash and lube business is destined for the Sea to Sky Business Park.
At its meeting Tuesday night council voted to grant a development permit to the proposal for a lube shop with two bays and a car wash with five wash stations at 1000 Industrial Way.
Real estate holding company Zen Properties Inc is behind the project. The property at the northwest corner of Highway 99 and Industrial Way has sat undeveloped since 2005.
The car washes will be made up of three self-wash and two auto-wash stations. One of the self-wash stations will accommodate a bicycle wash station, according to District of Squamish staff.
Two vacuum stations will be located at the rear of the property.
Six parking spaces will be provided for staff and lube shop customers.
A discussion at council focused on the size of the sign for the business, which will sit along Highway 99.
The sign is designed to be five metres high by three metres wide.
Several councillors were concerned the sign was too big and bright.
“The project, apart from that, is really quite attractive,” said Coun. Doug Race, referencing the size of the proposed sign.
“We have had issues with signs before and we found ourselves stuck with something we didn’t like later and I would rather not make that mistake again here.”
Previous Squamish council’s have taken issue with the signs at McDonald’s and Wal-Mart, Coun. Ted Prior recalled.
The development permit passed with a provision that the size and design of the sign be revisited with district staff.
