The rural areas surrounding Squamish are expected to get a bit quieter.

During their most recent meeting, the electoral area directors decided to recommend that the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District pass new noise bylaws to keep things a little more tranquil in Electoral Area D.

Currently the bylaw prohibits construction noise from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays and from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. weekends and holidays.

SLRD staff proposed that construction noise be prohibited from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday to Saturday and 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Sundays and statutory holidays.

“This is better aligned with the approach used by District of Squamish, and addresses concerns raised from the public,” reads an information report on the matter.

These recommendations, once received by the board, are expected to pass.
