Don’t get towed

BC Parks has announced a new parking enforcement policy for Stawamus Chief and Murrin parks.

Starting on July 4, BC Parks will be towing vehicles illegally parked at these two sites.

The two recreation areas along the highway have experienced an increase in the number of visitors and parking problems, according to a spokesperson for BC Parks.

Illegally parked cars block access for emergency vehicles, which is a risk to public safety, said David Karn of the Ministry of Environment via email.

The Stawamus Chief parking lot was reconfigured to accommodate more vehicles, and BC Parks is continuing to explore other ways to enhance parking options, according to Karn.

“Public safety is paramount for BC Parks and new parking policies are being put in place to ensure safe access for all,” he said.

Don’t mail tax payment

The District of Squamish is warning that with the potential for a Canada Post delivery disruption due to a labour dispute, residents should not depend on mailing in municipal property tax cheques.

If property tax payments are not received by the deadline of July 4, at 5 p.m., a five per cent penalty will be applied, warns the district.

Alternative methods to pay the tax include in person at Municipal Hall, Internet or with telephone banking.
