Money for Squamish
Squamish is set to get a portion of a $5 million Green Municipal Fund from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Government of Canada.
The District of Squamish will receive $20,000 and will use its funds to conduct a pilot project focused on increasing waste diversion at commercial and multifamily housing properties, according to a news release.
***CORRECTION: Authorities previously gave an incorrect figure in a news release as to how much money the District of Squamish would receive. That figure has been revised to $20,000.
Agricultural plan
Electoral area directors are suggesting that the regional district take the lead on creating an agricultural plan.
Last year the SLRD partnered with the District of Squamish to create an inventory of agricultural land in Squamish and Electoral Area D.
The District took the lead in this case and the inventory was completed.
However, no one has made any movement on the next step, which would be to use the data from the inventory to create an agricultural plan, said Tony Rainbow, the director for Electoral Area D.
The District of Squamish and the SLRD have each committed $15,000 in their 2018 budgets and are seeking a matching grant of $30,000.
However, no commitments have been made with regard to assigning staff to the job, he said. As a result, the directors will be asking the regional district board to consider having the SLRD planning department take the lead with this project.
$15K to Centrepoint building
The SLRD will be giving $15,000 to Squamish’s Centrepoint building.
Building operator Sea to Sky Community Services will be receiving the funds, which will be used to furnish a lecture room in the building.
The room, which is currently empty, is expected to be used for traditional classroom-style presentations and practical training sessions for things like first aid or CPR.
