Squamish ranked number one
Squamish is the best place to work in B.C., according to BC Business magazine’s “Best Cities for Work in B.C.” ranking released last week.
“This recognition provides an opportunity to highlight our vision for a future-focused economy centred around an outdoor-centric lifestyle, an entrepreneurial workforce and a location that offers key transportation links to overseas markets,” said District of Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman in a news release.
The third annual ranking is based on seven economic indicators such as income growth, average household income, population growth and unemployment.
Squamish came in fourth last year.
Christmas tree permit?
Even though Charlie Brown may have done it, Squamish residents can’t cut down any old tree to hang their holiday decorations on. Christmas tree cutting is only allowed with a permit and only within the powerline rights-of-way, according to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.
Cutting is only allowed for personal use under the Sea to Sky Christmas Tree Permit program. For more information go to www.for.gov.bc.ca.
Region part of palliative hub
A $2-million fundraising campaign will turn the North Shore Hospice into a hub for palliative care services. It’s the first hospice of its kind in British Columbia. The hub will include a new palliative outpatient clinic, providing patients with convenient, rapid access to the North Shore Palliative Care Physician Team. It will also provide the capability for the team to extend their reach via video link to “see” patients living in regions including the Sea to Sky Corridor.
