A 54-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle accident in North Vancouver, police say.

“This is a tragic accident, especially given the time of the year,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong in a news release.

The incident occurred in the 1100-block of Dempsey Road at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 19.

RCMP say the North Vancouver resident was alone in her vehicle while she was driving eastbound on Dempsey Road.

She went off the road and fell more than 30 feet down an embankment.

The vehicle sustained significant damage.

The driver was taken by emergency services to the local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and died.

The cause of the accident still remains unknown.

Investigators have been called out to examine the incident.
