News

The Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation (SODC) chose its top hired help this week.

A professional engineer with training from the University of B.C. was chosen to act as the corporation's chief executive officer.Larry Murray, the SODC chair, announced Michael Chin will start as CEO next week.

Murray said Chin is a former employee with Concord Pacific in Vancouver. According to Murray, while Chin was with Concord Pacific he worked on waterfront real estate projects.

"He is a professional engineer with an excellent track record in the west and trained at UBC and the University of Alberta," Murray said.

"He is very experienced and has been a project manager and a leader on very similar projects involving oceanfronts."

The SODC search for a CEO started late last year. A search firm was hired to help with the effort and the position was advertised in The Chief and in Vancouver's large newspapers.

"It has been a long fascinating process," said Murray. "It was a very thorough and extensive undertaking."

Murray expects the ocean front development process to begin moving quickly now with Chin ready to start working in Squamish. With guidance from the SODC board of directors, Chin is tasked with planning, administering, promoting and developing Squamish's 32 hectare (79 acre) downtown oceanfront land and marine assets.
