Oceanfront public hearing tonight

After more than five years in the works, tomorrow (Nov. 30) could be the last chance for residents to voice their opinions about the Oceanfront sub area plan.

After more than five years in the works, tomorrow (Nov. 30) could be the last chance for residents to voice their opinions about the Oceanfront sub area plan.

The community charter requires council to hold a public hearing after first and second reading and before third reading and adoption, and the Oceanfront sub area plan hearing will take place at Municipal Hall council chambers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 30).

Opinions may have changed since the open house on Oct. 28 because one major concern have been addressed to some extent four acres were added to the park on the southern tip of the peninsula.

The open house was well attended with more than 250 people present and Mayor Greg Gardner said he isnt sure what to expect for the public hearing.

There was very good representation from the community at our recent open house so I dont know if that will translate into a large attendance tomorrow or if people will think theyve already been heard, said Gardner. But I look forward to any comments from the community about the sub area plan.

There will be a sign-up sheet for anyone who wishes to speak and at 11 p.m., depending on how many people are left who wish to speak, Gardner will decide whether another public hearing is necessary.
