District of Squamish officials are dealing with a minor oil spill in the lower Garibaldi Highlands.
Thursday, May 30, afternoon, the municipality was alerted to a truck leaking hydraulic fluid while travelling through the area. Crews are on scene and have closed Lower Boulevard, Ayr Drive, Braemar Drive, Argyle Crescent and Friedel Crescent to drivers with the exception of residents who live along those streets.
We don't want to track the oil around, district spokesperson Christina Moore said.
A Hazmat team is also on site, she noted. The unit that deals with hazardous chemicals are on hand to minimize any environmental impacts, Moore said.
There is no public threat, she said.
District officials are still determining the situation and will update details as they are available at www.squamish.ca.
