Online camping reservation service opening at start of March

Squamish residents may expect another busy camping season, as travel limitations for much of the world remain in place.

If you want to get a campsite reserved for the summer, you can start making reservations at the beginning of March.

Today, the province announced its Discover Camping reservation service is opening on March 8.

People living in B.C. will have priority access, and reservations for people living outside of the province will be delayed until July 8.

"Our provincial parks have never been as important as they are right now. They provide a special place to safely connect with nature and improve our health and well-being during these difficult times," said Environment Minister George Heyman in a news release on Feb. 24.

"We are all looking forward to another summer of camping and outdoor recreation in B.C., and while public health concerns and advice remain, we are asking people to pick a campground as close to home as possible to avoid long road trips and non-essential travel."

Reservations can be made no further than two months out from arrival.

The province says since COVID-19 is limiting travel this year, the 2021 camping season is expected to be busy.

According to bcparks.ca, reservable dates for popular local provincial parks include:

April 1 to Oct. 30 for Alice Lake Provincial Park

Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 for Garibaldi Provincial Park

Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 for Porteau Cove Provincial Park
