As homicide detectives have signalled their investigation is at a standstill, the girlfriend of the late Davis Wolfgang Hawke, known locally as Jesse James, is making an appeal for more information on his death.

On March 8, Eva McLennan told The Chief she's asking anyone with information on the 2017 case to come forward.

"People loved this person," said McLennan. "He was ultimately the victim of murder, and it can't be swept under the carpet that there is a murder victim in our community."

On June 14, 2017, Hawke was shot dead in Squamish, and his remains were burned in a vehicle.

In November 2020, police revealed the legal name of Hawke, who everyone in Squamish knew as Jesse James.

Hawke was a missing American who had previously founded a white nationalist group and allegedly made large sums of money selling penis enhancers via spam mail.

Originally born Andrew Greenbaum, past media reports stated Hawke grew up as a Jewish kid who eventually tried unsuccessfully to organize a white power rally.

McLennan said she understood her partner's past life has garnered most of the attention, but she said she hopes it doesn't take away from the need to solve the murder.

"There's a lot that's overshadowing the fact of his homicide," she said.

"There's a lot of profiling of the victim going on, and I wish that the same interest that people are giving to the victim's life would be given instead to the fact of his homicide and just the emphasis being on, 'OK, let's profile the killer.'"

McLennan added solving the case would provide some closure for her and Hawke's loved ones.

"It would be a closure for me, and what interests me most of all is to know how he died," she said.

"I feel a responsibility to be his advocate throughout this homicide investigation."

Frank Jang, spokesperson for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said investigators haven't uncovered any new developments."We have nothing on the case," said Jang.

"Our position is status quo, nothing's changed on the file, so, if anything, we do need people with information to come forward."

Jang said there have not been any suspects identified in this case.
