Christine Perkins has been named principal at Howe Sound Secondary School for the 2011-'12 school year, School District 48 officials announced this week.
Perkins, who is currently serving as principal of Don Ross Secondary School, will assume her new duties at Howe Sound Secondary School on Aug. 1, officials said in a statement issued on Thursday (June 2).
Before coming to District 48, Perkins was a middle school and secondary school teacher in the Central Okanagan School District. She has served as both vice-principal, then principal, at Don Ross.
Perkins has a Masters of Education degree and is close to completing the PhD program at UBC.
"She has been an active leader in the Middle Years Program and looks forward to working with her new staff as Howe Sound Secondary School evolves from a secondary school (Grades 8 to 12) into a Graduation Program School (Grades 10, 11 and 12)," officials said.
Perkins replaces Rose MacKenzie as principal at Howe Sound Secondary. MacKenzie is also director of instruction for the district.
