While Squamish was saved from wildfires this summer, our neighbours to the north have not been so lucky, as these striking images show.
The Birkenhead Lake wildfire was started by a lightning strike and discovered on Aug. 5.
Squamish’s Matt Maddaloni sent in these photos of what remains of that fire. The pictures were taken on Sept. 7 at 10 p.m. from the Birkenhead Lake campground.
As of Sept. 10, a spokesperson for the BC Wildfire Service said the fire continues to be held, as it has for about a week, and remains at about 770 hectares in size.
There are currently 218 active wildfires in B.C., being fought by 316 firefighting personnel.
