Police arrest drunk driving dine and dash vandal

On Friday (July 9) at 9:28 p.m. police were called to the Essence of India restaurant after an intoxicated customer had caused damage inside the restaurant and left without paying for his meal. At 11:02 p.m. police attended to a vehicle blocking a lane way and arrested a 54-year-old man for impaired driving. The man was connected to the incident at the restaurant as well. He will be appearing in court on Sept. 1 to answer to charges of mischief to property, impaired driving and driving while over .08%. Damage to the restaurant was estimated to be $200 and the skipped meal tab was $75.

Drunk driver with kids arrested

On Saturday (July 10) at 7:35 a.m., a member on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 99 near Chance Creek. As the member approached the vehicle he observed a male driver, an adult female and two children in the rear seat of the vehicle.

The driver displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol and failed a roadside screening for alcohol. The driver was returned to the detachment and refused to supply a breath sample. The 38-year-old driver will now appear in court on Aug. 25 to answer to charges of impaired driving and refusing to supply a breath sample. At the time of the incident the driver said he was taking his family to a cabin near Pemberton for a holiday.

ATM vandalized

On Friday (July 9), police received a call from North Shore Credit Union advising of damage to the ATM which occurred at 10 p.m. on July 5. A young male is seen on video kicking and damaging the machine. A set of still pictures from the video surveillance was obtained and an 18-year-old male has been identified and is being sought. The suspect was in the company of a young male and female at the time of this senseless act of damage, which is estimated at $6,500 to repair. The matter is still under investigation to locate the youth and process charges.

Prohibited driver found hiding

On Saturday (July 11) at 11 p.m. a member was conducting a road check on Highway 99 in Britannia Beach when he was advised by a motorist that a motorcycle had stopped just up the road from him. The member checked the motorcycle, which still had the key in the ignition. A check of the area located the driver crouched behind the cement no post barrier on the side of the highway. The 21-year-old male driver was prohibited from driving and was arrested and his motorcycle was impounded for 30 days. He will appear in court to answer to a charge of driving while prohibited.

Dirtbiker injured

On Saturday (July 11) at 6:35 p.m., police and B.C. Ambulance services attended to the Mamquam Forest Service Road for a report of a injured male on a dirtbike. The 43-year-old male had been riding with a friend when he lost control and was ejected off his motorcycle. The male was treated on scene and then airlifted to Vancouver by Medi-Vac Helicopter for treatment of fractures and lacerations.

Prohibited driver charged

On Monday (July 12) at 4:25 p.m. a member conducting a road check for impaired drivers stopped a vehicle on Buckley Avenue, the driver was unable to produce a drivers licence and a check showed that the 34-year-old man was prohibited from driving. The male was arrested and his vehicle was impounded for thirty days. The driver was released to appear in court on Aug. 25 to answer to a charge of prohibited driving.
