Police briefs

1. On June 12 at 11:30 p.m. a member conducted foot patrol around Stawamus Elementary and observed broken bottles and beer cans strewn around the playground and equipment, a walk around the school located two broken windows.

Entry was not gained to the school and security and property staff for the school were called out to secure the school.

2. On June 12 at 2:05 p.m. police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Garibaldi Way. The driver was located on Tantalus Road and then pulled over to a service station. The driver was approached and was visibly impaired by alcohol and was returned to the detachment and registered two breath readings over three times the legal limit of .08%. The vehicle was towed and the 47-year-old driver was detained then released to appear in court on Aug 4 to answer to an Impaired Driving charge.

3. On June 13 at 7:30 a.m. a member on patrol observed a vehicle at Highway 99 and Doodson Corner and the plates on the vehicle came back as being stolen. The vehicle was stopped and the 33-year-old driver was found to be a prohibited driver. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed. The driver was released to appear in court and face charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Prohibited Driving and Driving Without Insurance.

4. On June 12 at 2:20 a.m. police were called to the Executive Inn on Tantalus Road to a report of highly intoxicated male being verbally aggresive and loud in the lobby of the hotel. The male was identified and found to be a guest registered to a room at the hotel. The 47-year-old male was escorted to his room with a stern caution to stay in his room until he sobered up. The police officer attended the lobby and within five minutes the same male was observed staggering out of the elevator. The male was arrested and held in jail until sober and was issued with a Violation Ticket for being Intoxicated in Public.

5. On June 12 at 1:10 a.m. a member on foot patrol of a known party site near the Municiipal Dog Pound located a very intoxicated 17-year-old female who was unable to care for herself. The youth was driven home were an adult was located capable of caring for the female who was issued with violation tickets for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Intoxication in a Public Place.

6. On June 10 at 2:30 a.m. police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Buckley Avenue. The vehicle was stopped on Buckley Avenue in front of Howe Sound Secondary and the 45 yr old female driver showed signs of being impaired by alcohol. The driver was returned to the office a two breath readings over twice the legal limit of .08% were registered and the driver will now be appearing in court on July 21 to answer to an Impaired Driving charge.

On June 13 an owner reported that his credit card was fraudulently used at the Husky Service Station on Cleveland Avenue, officers reviewed video surveillance and recognized a well known person, The 37-year-old male was located and arrested and was still in possession of the stolen credit card. The male will appear in court on Aug 11 to answer to charges relating to Fraud and Possession of Stolen Property.

8. On June 13 at 11:45 p.m. police received a report of Break and Enter to the Valleycliffe General Store, member attended and broadcast information to other units responding. A 16-year-old youth fitting the suspect description was detained nearby and found to be in Possession of Property stolen from the store. The youth was held in custody and then released on conditions to appear in court to answer to a charge of Break, Enter and Theft and Possession of Stolen Property. At the time of this alleged offence, this youth was out on conditions in relation to another business Break and Enter.

9. On June 15 at 2:12 a.m. police received a report of an Impaired Driver on Highway 99 near London Drugs. Members attended and failed to locate the vehicle. A member continued patrols and at 3:09 a.m. the vehicle was located on Alice Lake Road, the driver showed signs of being impaired by alcohol. The male was arrested for Impaired Driving and became combative and had to be subdued. Upon returning to the office the 46-year-old male refused to supply a Breath Sample. The male was held in custody until sober and released on a Promise to Appear in Court and answer to charges of Impaired Driving, Refusing to Supply a Breath Sample and Resisting Arrest.

10. On June 14 an owner reported that overnight several tools were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Ayr Drive. A Paslode grey siding gun, two rigid coil orange air guns, a yellow Dewalt recip saw and a Dewalt skill saw were stolen. The matter is still under investigation.
