Firearms seized
A man had his high-powered rifle seized on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at approximately 3 p.m.
Police pulled a man over along Squamish Valley Road after he was seen leaving an open fire just off the road, according to the RCMP. The man also didn’t appear to be wearing a seatbelt. When the officer approached the man’s vehicle, the officer could see the rifle in the passenger seat, near the driver, according to the report.
The rifle was not loaded, but a fully loaded ammunition magazine was nearby and the man did not have a firearms license, RCMP say.
Charges against a 66-year-old Squamish man for unauthorized possession of a firearm are being pursued.
Theft and drugs found
A portable air compressor was stolen from the backyard of a home in the 37000 block of Second Avenue, sometime between Nov. 18 and 27, RCMP report. The theft was reported to police on Dec. 2. Police are awaiting further details on the make, model and value of the compressor.
Also found in the driveway of the building were two small plastic bags containing what appeared to be methamphetamine, believed to have been dropped by the suspect, according to the RCMP report.
Theft from vehicles
A hard hat, a safety vest, a safety shoe (not the pair, just one shoe) and some Canadian Tire money was stolen from an unlocked grey 2007 Ford Ranger parked on Kelvin Grove Way on Dec.2, according to police. The estimated value of the items taken was $200.
Another truck was targeted in this neighbourhood the same evening. Work tools were stolen from a 2014 Ford F-150. Police are awaiting a detailed list of the items. In this case there was no apparent sign of forced entry and it was not known if the vehicle was left unlocked.
Mischief and theft
Snowboard boots, a specialized battery for a flashlight and a backpack containing medication were stolen from a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that was parked overnight on Isleview Place in Lions Bay, Dec 2, according to RCMP. The car’s window was pried open and there was damage to the lock of a rear storage compartment. The total value of items stolen was estimated at $400. Along the same street on Dec. 2, a set of sockets and a tire pressure gauge was taken from a locked 2002 blue Ford Ranger, according to police. It appeared the suspect used a coat hanger or something similar to break into the vehicle. Police seized a number of items for forensic examination and fingerprints.
Fuel theft
Fuel was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Edgewater Drive, Dec. 2. A suspicious male was observed in the area, said police, who noted he is described as a tall, skinny man wearing a black hoodie, dark clothing and he was riding a 10-speed road bike that had some sort of gardening equipment strapped to the back with a bungee cord.
