Child killed in hiking fatality

A seven year-old girl lost her life in a rock slide on the “Unnecessary Trail” in the Lions Bay area Monday, according to RCMP. The child was hiking with a group when the rock slide occurred. The Coroner’s office is involved and the investigation is ongoing, police said, but little additional information is being released at this time in consideration of the family.

Stereo equipment theft

Approximately $2,000 worth of stereo equipment, including a CD player, two speakers, two subwoofers in a box, an amplifier and a stereo battery, were stolen from a Jeep parked outside an auto repair shop in the 41000 block of Government Road on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Theft from Vehicle

Approximately $1,200 worth of items, including an iPhone, glasses, clothing and electronics, were stolen from a vehicle parked at the Rubble Creek parking lot at Garibaldi Park sometime between Sunday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 16.

 Theft of skis

Two pairs of skis, books, insurance papers and some other items were stolen through a rear passenger window of a white 2006 Toyota Matrix on Dec. 18

 Theft and tires slashed

Nitto Trail Grapplers tires and rims were stolen from a black 2005 GMC Sierra overnight on Dec. 16 while at a dealership in the 40000 block of Government Road.

 Purse stolen

A black handbag and a wallet containing $100, identification and bank and gift cards as well as black snowboard trousers and a pair of gloves were taken from a 1997 Buick LeSabre parked at Garibaldi Provincial Park on Thursday, Dec. 18 between 9 and 6:30 p.m.. 

Entry was made through a rear passenger window, according to police.

The RCMP is following up on evidence obtained from the incident.

  Mischief to Vehicle

A vehicle that was parked overnight on Tuesday, Dec. 16 along the 2000 block of Spruce Drive had its front passenger window pried open and an attempt was made to pry the driver’s side door, but entry was not gained. Nothing was stolen.
