Serious injuries in crash
A 49-year-old Richmond man suffered serious head injuries and a Vancouver resident was injured after a vehicle crash Sunday, Dec. 28 at approx. 7:40 a.m. on Highway 99 in Lions Bay, just north of Kelvin Grove Way, in the northbound lane. According to Squamish RCMP, a southbound 2007 Mazda 5 driven by the Richmond man crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a 2015 Isuzu one-tonne truck, driven by the Vancouver man.
The highway was shut down for a number of hours to accommodate the treatment and transportation of the victims and the RCMP investigation. Single lanes were open as soon as was practical to allow for regular traffic flow.
Home burns to ground
A vacant home in the Tantalus Acres area of the Squamish Valley burned to the ground Friday, Dec. 26. Police say this is the third vacant structure burned in the area by an apparent arsonist over the past month.
A white pickup truck with black fenders and a black box, described as being similar to a “logging box,” is considered a vehicle of interest, according to police.
The investigations are ongoing and may be in relation to ongoing property disputes in the area, police said.
Jackets stolen
About 40 Arcteryx jackets valued at around $15,000 were stolen Dec. 23 before about 5 a.m. from the 1200 block of Hunter Place. The front door to the business had been rammed by a vehicle, police said. According to Squamish RCMP, a police service dog attended to the scene and extensive patrols of the area failed to locate any suspects.
Later in the morning, at approximately 10 a.m., a 1995 Dodge Caravan was reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Government Road, according to police. It was later recovered on Garibaldi Avenue at Magee Street, and was seized for forensic examination, as damage to the vehicle was consistent with evidence gathered at the scene of the break and enter, RCMP reported.
The investigation is ongoing, video surveillance in the area is being evaluated, and investigators have some promising leads in identifying a probable suspect or suspects, according to police.
If anyone has any information relating to this crime, especially if anyone has been offered a deal on new Arcteryx jackets by a “friend of a friend” or from the back of someone’s vehicle, contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Police caught up to a 36-year-old Squamish woman on Winnipeg Street who is well known to police at about 3 a.m. that night. According to police, the woman suspect had numerous items believed to be associated to the break and enter on her. The items were seized and the suspect and a male acquaintance, also well known to police, are being investigated as suspects in the event, police said.
