Dangerous driving

A 46-year-old North Vancouver man is facing charges of dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of numerous car crashes.

West Vancouver Police reported to Squamish RCMP that a vehicle was seen northbound on Highway 99 and had been involved in numerous collisions along the way. The vehicle had failed to stop after each crash. The suspect’s black Ford F-150 ran off the road near Porteau Cove, according to Squamish RCMP, and the driver fled down a nearby embankment on Feb. 14 at about 10:45 a.m.  A witness directed police to the man’s location and he was taken into custody without incident. Police said the suspect was the registered owner of the vehicle involved, and alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the incident.

Assault

A 26-year-old Squamish man was treated for minor injuries to his face after an incident in the 9000 block of Valley Drive. Police said there had been a fight and the man alleged to have assaulted the Squamish man left the scene and could not be found in the area. Police are reviewing surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.

 Theft

Two Squamish men, aged 39 and 44 years, were arrested for theft and possession of stolen property after they were found with stolen copper wire in their vehicle on Feb. 14 at about 11:45 a.m., near Shannon Falls. Police said the wire was taken from an old powerhouse along a trail near Britannia Mine. The suspects left the scene before police arrived, but a witness provided enough details to identify the vehicle involved, police said.

Residential B & E

A home on the 38000 block of Sixth Avenue was broken into on Feb. 15 while the residents slept on the second floor. An Acer tablet, numerous DVDs and prescription medication was stolen. The suspects likely entered through an unlocked patio door, police said.

A forensic examination for fingerprints and other evidence was conducted at the home.

 Business B & E

On Monday, Feb. 16 at 3 a.m. police responded to a report of a business alarm at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Highway 99. At the scene, officers noted an unlocked, but closed rear door and a broken drive-through window. Nothing inside had been disturbed or taken. A police service dog attended and a track was established leading from the scene along the blind channel, but a suspect was not located.

Video surveillance showed a possible suspect who was wearing black pants, grey shoes, a grey hoodie, and carrying a black backpack. The suspect was riding a black and red bike.
