Dangerous Driving/Pursuit

A motorist was arrested for dangerous driving and causing a police pursuit on Friday, March 6 at approximately 1:50 a.m. According to police who were conducting a roadblock on Highway 99 at Scott Crescent, a southbound vehicle stopped on the bridge just north of the roadblock. When a member approached the vehicle, the driver started driving toward another member with clear intentions of not stopping, according to police. The officer got out of the way, as the suspect vehicle honked and sped away. A brief chase ensued into the Valleycliffe area, and the vehicle was stopped on Guilford Drive at Westway Avenue after fishtailing a few times, police said. Charges are being recommended.

 

Theft from vehicle

Camping gear, a laptop and other personal items, including the victim’s dog’s ashes, were stolen from a vehicle parked in the Canadian Tire parking lot on Monday, March 2, according to police. The driver’s side door was bent to gain access, said RCMP. 

 

Business B&E

Suspects cut the water to an abandoned building in the 39500 block of Galbraith Road on Tuesday, March 3. This flooded the abandoned warehouse and caused $3,000 in damage, police said. The suspects entered the building by cutting the lock to the door and attempted to steal copper, according to Squamish RCMP.  

Mailbox Theft

There was a theft from a mailbox at Furry Creek located at the Discovery Centre, on Monday, March 2, according to Squamish RCMP.  Several similar reports have been received and these are being actively investigated, police said.

 

School B&E

Two older Dell computers worth $30 each were stolen from Howe Sound Secondary School on Friday, March 6.

 

Unauthorized campfires

A small quantity of marijuana was seized when police and the fire department attended a bonfire along the Mamquam River on Saturday, March 7. Those involved were informed about campfire bylaws. Earlier that night, at 10:30 p.m. the fire department requested police assistance in dealing with an unauthorized campfire in the 3000 block Midnight Way, Squamish RCMP said. The resident was made aware that a permit was required for an open fire in the District of Squamish (free and available from the District of Squamish website).
