Lost hiker, vehicle theft, mischief to vehicles, business B&E

Lost hiker

A woman was rescued near Edith Lake Saturday night. She had been heard screaming for help in Alice Lake Provincial Park at about 9:50 p.m. Police searched the area and located the woman, before the arrival of Search and Rescue.

The woman had miscalculated the time it would take to complete her run on the trails and had become cold and disoriented when it became dark, police said.

She was not injured.

Vehicle theft

A BMW X5 was stolen from the driveway of a home on Beach Drive in Furry Creek on Sunday. The keys had been left in the car along with the owner’s wallet, according to police. The credit cards were used at several locations after being stolen, police said. These transactions, as well as the theft of the car, are still under investigation, according to Squamish RCMP.

Mischief to vehicles

Several vehicles belonging to the provincial government were “keyed” in the parking lot behind a building in the 11000 block Hunter Place, on Tuesday, according to police.

Business B&E

Several pieces of jewelry, as well as an iPad, a MacBook and $150 in cash were stolen in a break-in at a business in the 1800 block of Mamquam Road overnight on Saturday, according to police. The suspect got in by prying the door open, RCMP said.

Attempted B&E

Another attempt was made to break into a building leased by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in the 39500 block of Galbraith Avenue on Sunday, police said. The building, which was targeted before, is vacant and nothing was stolen, however damage was once again caused by the attempted entry, according to RCMP.

Theft from vehicles

Several vehicles were broken into in the Furry Creek and Lion’s Bay areas on Sunday, according to Squamish RCMP.

Police said they believe these break-ins are related to recent thefts from several of the community mailboxes in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
