Armed robbery, arrest on the water, car stolen, bike theft

Armed robbery

A man armed with a black handgun robbed the Sea to Sky Liquor Store at 40330 Tantalus Road on Saturday, March 21 at approximately 10:50 p.m., according to Squamish RCMP. 

The man took an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot. Police dogs were brought in shortly afterward but were unable to track the suspect, RCMP reported. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male six feet tall, with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and had a black cover over the bottom of his face, police said. 

This incident is being actively investigated by several officers and may be related to stolen vehicle investigations from Squamish and neighbouring jurisdictions as well as thefts from vehicles, according to police.

 

Arrest on the water

RCMP West Coast Marine Services arrested a man on a small vessel South of Lions Bay in Howe Sound in relation to a sailboat that was adrift on Friday March 20 at 6.p.m., according to police. 

The suspect had been wanted by North Cowichan RCMP for breach of probation on a warrant which had been on the system for 16 months, according to police. The man was turned over to the Squamish RCMP detachment, where he was held overnight and then released with conditions following a bail hearing, according to RCMP.

 

Car stolen

A 2000 Honda Civic was stolen from a carport in the 10000 block of Valley Drive on Sunday, March 22, according to Squamish RCMP. The theft occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on Saturday night and 7 a.m. on Sunday. So far there is no suspect, and the investigation is on going, police said. 

 

Bike theft

A bike was stolen at 7 a.m. on March 15 in the 3200 block University Boulevard, Squamish RCMP said. The bike owner heard a loud noise and looked out the window to see a man riding away on his Giant Trance mountain bike towards a black pick-up truck. The victim ran downstairs only to see the truck leaving the area with his bike in the back, police said.

 

Theft from vehicles

Electronics were stolen from a vehicle broken into at Porteau Cove Provincial Park overnight on Sunday, March 22. 

Another vehicle was broken into in Garibaldi Lake Provincial Park the same night. In this incident personal items and a cell phone were stolen, according to Squamish RCMP.
