When the victim looked up the telephone number provided by Tomson (a Boston area number with no ringtone or voicemail), she learned others have been scammed in a similar way, according to police.

Fraud alert
Police have heard from several people who received emails supposedly from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that contained a link to receive a direct payment. The recipients did not access the links and instead notified police.
Police said that the CRA does not send emails to taxpayers directing them to access links in order to receive payments. Further information is available on the CRA website.
