A thief charged $3,500 to a victim’s Rogers account on Thursday, April 16, according to Squamish RCMP. The suspect used the victim’s social insurance number to open the account, police say. Squamish RCMP and Rogers security are investigating, according to police. Squamish RCMP remind Squamish residents to carefully protect and secure all personal documents and information. 

Theft of excavator

A John Deere excavator worth $65,000 and a trailer worth $7,000 were stolen from a compound in the 9000 block of Valley Drive, according to Squamish RCMP. The theft occurred overnight Thursday, April 16. The compound was examined and evidence collected, but no suspect has been identified yet, police said.  

Gucci purse stolen

A brown Gucci purse containing personal documents, credit cards and US$220 was stolen from a vehicle while a hiker was parked at Shannon Falls on the afternoon of Sunday, April 19, according to Squamish RCMP. The victim believes the vehicle was locked and may have been entered using a device to unlock it remotely, police said.

Break and enter

Rona in the 39000 block of Discovery Way was broken into overnight on Monday, April 13. A lock on a gate was removed to gain entry, but it appears nothing was stolen. A hypodermic needle was located in the area as well.

Shoplifting 

A man was arrested April 17 for taking an item worth $200 from Wal-Mart on Tuesday, April 14, according to Squamish RCMP. Wal-Mart security reported seeing a man they recognized as a frequent shoplifter take the item worth $200 and leave out a back door without paying and ride away on a bicycle, police said. 

Officers attended, viewed the video and immediately recognized the man who is well known to police for property crimes, police said. Charges are being recommended, according to police. The man was kept in jail for the weekend and was to appear in court on Monday, April 20.

Break and enter

A business in the 41000 block of Glenalder Place was broken into on Saturday, April 18. The front door was smashed, but nothing was taken even though there was a significant amount of outdoor clothing and equipment readily accessible, police reported. There were no witnesses and to date no suspect has been identified, but the investigation is on-going, RCMP said.
