Identity fraud
A man was arrested on Friday, April 24 for using false identification at Chances Casino, but was gone before police arrived, according to Squamish RCMP. Police suspected the man was wanted on warrants from New Westminster. The RCMP stopped the man for speeding at 9 p.m. that night and the New Westminster warrants were confirmed. After receiving his speeding ticket, he was driven to North Vancouver by Squamish RCMP, where he was handed over to New Westminster Police.
Shoplifting
A young man was arrested for shoplifting a hunting knife from Wal-Mart on Wednesday, April 22. The man reportedly had blood on his hands and had left the store and boarded a bus, police said. Officers intercepted the bus nearby and the man was arrested. A charge of theft is being recommended.
Pickup truck stolen
A man was arrested for possession of stolen property after a pickup truck with Air Canada Jazz markings on it was seen driving erratically on Highway 99. The vehicle was intercepted by police on the Ring Creek Road near Garibaldi Park Road, according to Squamish RCMP. The driver was not an Air Canada employee and did not provide any explanation for having the truck, which turned out to be stolen from Richmond.
The vehicle had been at the airport and had the keys in the ignition.
Mischief with balls
Someone threw two stolen croquet balls through the window of a home in the 38500 block of Westway Avenue on Wednesday, April 22 shortly after 1 a.m., according to Squamish RCMP. No one was hurt, police said.
Suspect flees into woods
Shane Nendick, 33, from North Vancouver was arrested on April 23 related to an incident on February 25, when a suspicious person was reported at the base of the Squamish Chief, according to Squamish RCMP. Nendick was located at the base and found to have outstanding warrants, police said. According to the RCMP, when Nendick was told he was under arrest, he fled into a wooded area and was not found until April 23 when he was discovered in Vancouver. A charge of escaping lawful custody was later approved.
