Logging business B&E
An unknown quantity of fuel was stolen along with a satellite radio, fishing equipment and random office supplies from a logging operation at Watts Point over the weekend, Squamish RCMP said. The break-in was reported to police on Monday, August 17. A tugboat at the dock and the office for the business were rummaged through, according to police. A forensic examination was conducted, the results of which are pending.
Arrests in vehicle theft
Two people were arrested and several charges are being recommended after an officer stopped a vehicle reported stolen in Surrey at Britannia Beach on Monday, August 17, police said.
Drugs were found in the vehicle and the driver was found in breach of probation, Squamish RCMP said.
Van stolen
A 1998 Ford Windstar van was stolen from residence in Britannia Beach on Thursday, August 20. Two days later the vehicle was recovered abandoned at the look-out point on Highway 99, just north of Britannia Beach, police said.
The van was too messy to be suitable for forensic examination, Squamish RCMP told The Squamish Chief.
Garage crash
A vehicle registered to a business crashed through the walls of a garage in the 41900 block of Government Road Thursday, August 20 at about 10 p.m., police said. Police did not find the driver at the scene, but a possible suspect has been identified, according to RCMP. The vehicle was seized for examination.
Stolen truck recovered
A red 2005 Toyota Tacoma that had been stolen while parked at the Smoke Bluffs was recovered at the casino on Saturday, August 22, and is undergoing forensic examination. Two passports were missing from the truck when it was recovered.
Truck with tools stolen
A white 2015 Toyota Tacoma with a 2” lift kit and black aftermarket rims was stolen from a driveway in the 38200 block of View Place on Saturday, August 22, police report. The vehicle also contained stone/tile cutting tools worth about $5,000. The police say the investigation is on-going.
Bear relocated; park violators educated
Squamish RCMP, Cat Lake recreation site staff and a conservation officer tranquilized and relocated a large bear on Saturday, August 22, police said.
The team also educated numerous violators in the park, RCMP said. Violations ranged from leaving food outside, playing loud music at 2:30 a.m., possession of controlled substances and consuming liquor in a public place, according to Squamish RCMP.
