Rollover crash

Occupants of a vehicle were taken to hospital but not seriously injured after a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 99 at Lions Bay on Jan. 3, Squamish RCMP reported. However, their vehicle was a write-off. The northbound vehicle lost control and hit the rock face. The occupants were taken to Lions Gate Hospital for examination and released. Speed is believed to be the cause of the crash, according to RCMP.

Storage locker break-in

Roughly $14,000 worth of high-end purses, shoes and perfumes was stolen from a storage locker in the 39100 block Queens Way on Dec. 28, according to Squamish RCMP. The thief broke in to an adjoining locker and made off with CDs, and another empty adjoining storage locker was also broken into, police said. A forensic examination is being conducted.

Parking lot break-in

A Kate Spade purse worth $300, approximately $900 worth of shoes, a passport and Beats By Dre headphones were stolen from a vehicle in the Stawamus Chief parking lot while the owners were hiking the Chief on Dec. 28 between 1 and 5 p.m., Squamish RCMP said.

The back window of the vehicle was smashed to gain entry.

Impaired driving arrest

A man was arrested for impaired driving and failed two Breathalyzer tests on Dec. 30, police reported.

An officer had previously observed a southbound vehicle cross over to the northbound lanes, almost colliding with the police vehicle on Government Road near Ross Road. The officer stopped the vehicle and the driver showed signs of impairment, according to the report. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition.

Guitar thefts

A Brown Resonator guitar and a black and white Hagstrom Metropolis guitar, both valued at $325, were stolen from a business in the 1400 block Winnipeg Street on Dec. 30, according to Squamish RCMP. A brick was used to smash the front door glass, which was the likely the entry and exit for the thief, police said.

Post helps find truck

A white Dodge Ram 3500 service vehicle stolen from a business in the 39500 block Galbraith Road on Jan. 1 was later recovered by police from Friedel Crescent due to a Facebook post, Squamish RCMP said.  The business owner put a posting on Facebook about the incident and later received information on the truck’s location.

The business’s front gate on the outer fence of the business was damaged during the theft, police said. The truck is with the police for forensic examination.

New Year’s Eve busy

Squamish RCMP say they were kept busy attending numerous general and domestic disturbance calls on New Year’s Eve, none of which resulted in arrests. In one incident of mischief, police were told that a man outside of the Ruddy Duck had smashed a window at the Howe Sound Brewery.
