Assault, forcible confinement

Police are recommending a suspect face several criminal charges, including assault, uttering threats, forcible confinement and breach charges, after an assault in the 2200 block of Hensman Road on Thursday, Jan. 28.

The suspect was arrested and a search warrant was obtained to gather further evidence of the offence, according to Squamish RCMP.

Pedestrian hit

A pedestrian suffered a non-serious hip injury and was taken to hospital for examination after being hit by a slow-moving vehicle on Industrial Way on Wednesday, Jan. 27, RCMP said. Poor lighting, rainy weather and the pedestrian’s dark clothing are all believed to be contributing factors in the accident, police said.

Attempted fraud

Police are investigating a report of an attempted fraud. On Tuesday, Jan. 26, a man was given a $3,250 cheque and directed to deposit it into his account then transfer money into another account, police said. He reported it to the bank and was able to stop the transfer. The police investigation continues.

Car crashes into logging truck

A driver was transferred to hospital after a crash early on Wednesday, Jan. 27, according to Squamish RCMP. A southbound Honda Civic struck the rear axle of a logging truck on Highway 99 while making a turn to cross the highway towards the log depot at Watts Point.

Neither alcohol or speed are believed to be factors in the crash, police said, however, visibility may have been poor.

The truck driver was not injured, but the driver of the Honda had chest pain, a seat belt burn and whiplash, police said. He was transported to hospital for examination.  Traffic on the highway was partially interrupted for three hours.


Car stolen

A 2009 Chevy Aveo was stolen from the 38800 block of Buckley Avenue sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 28 and 8 p.m. on Jan 29, police said. The owner believed the keys may have been dropped in a parking lot and someone may have found them and stolen the car, according to police.  The vehicle was located abandoned in Vancouver on Jan. 31, but no suspect has been identified

Theft from vehicles

A black leather wallet, identification, credit cards and $100 in cash were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Mamquam Road on Sunday, Jan. 31 sometime during the afternoon, police said. The front right window of the vehicle was smashed, according to police.

A second vehicle was broken into in the same way in the 2500 block of Mamquam Road, and identification, credit cards and $25 cash was stolen from that vehicle, police reported.
