Holiday crashes
A motorcycle driver suffering a broken leg and arm needed multiple surgeries due to just one of the accidents on Family Day, Monday, Feb. 8. Holiday traffic on the Sea to Sky highway was heavier than usual particularly southbound, according to police. Squamish RCMP attended no fewer than four collisions, all of which were minor but contributed to the significant delays in traffic flow. Congestion at the exit from the Sea to Sky Gondola was also a factor, according to RCMP. The most serious incident involved the motorcycle, which failed to navigate a right curve near Deeks Creek and went into the ditch, police said.
ATV rider injured
A passenger on an ATV was transported to Squamish General Hospital with minor injuries on Wednesday, Feb. 10, according to police. Officers attended the 2000 block of Misty Lane on Paradise Valley Road to help BC Ambulance Service following a report of two women who had fallen off an ATV. The driver was visibly intoxicated and was arrested for impaired driving, police said. She failed roadside screening tests and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition, according to Squamish RCMP.
Threats uttered
Police received a report of a threat made to a Brackendale resident via social media, on Friday, Feb. 12. The threat was reportedly made in retaliation for an earlier incident where the man making the threat believed the other man had slashed the tires of his vehicle, according to Squamish RCMP. Police are still investigating both matters.
Mine museum thefts
On Thursday, Feb. 11, staff at Britannia Mine Museum reported a recent theft of copper wiring from their property, according to Squamish RCMP. The exact date of the theft is not known and at this time no suspect has been identified, police said. A similar incident was reported on Sunday, Feb.14, according to Squamish RCMP. Again, no suspect was located at the scene or identified.
Bike theft
A bicycle worth $2,500 was stolen overnight on Saturday, Feb. 13 from a bike rack attached to a vehicle parked in the 38900 block of Progress Way, Squamish RCMP said. The bike was locked to the rack with two cable locks. The bike is described as a black and blue Giant Trance, with blue peddles and a blue and silver bike pump attached to the frame.
